Box Score Monmouth, Ore (Feb. 6) – The Central Washington men's basketball team suffered a cold shooting night as they fell to host Western Oregon University 71-59 Thursday night in Monmouth.
With the loss, CWU falls to 10-9 on the season and 6-5 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Western Oregon improved its record to 12-10, 5-7 in GNAC.
JB Pillard (Juanita HS) led the Wildcats with a team-high 17 points and added 13 rebounds, recording his eighth double-double of the season.
MARK MCLAUGHLIN (Inglemoor HS), who came into the game as the nations leading scorer, was held to 14 points which was less than half of his season average of 28.4 points per game.
As a team, the Wildcats shot just 36.5 percent, making 23 of their 63 attempts. Central Washington shot just 18.8 percent from the field in the first-half where they entered halftime with a 33-20 deficit.
Even though the CWU shots started to fall in the second-half where they converted on more than half of their shots, the Wildcats were unable to close the gap en route to the final 71-59 loss to the Wolves.
Western Oregon also struggled to score offensively as they shot just 35. 8 percent from the field, but made 17 of its 20 shots from the charity stripe, and outscored the Wildcats 14-8 on second chance points.
The Wolves were led by Andy Avgi who scored a game-high 18 points, nine of which came from the free throw line.
Up Next, the Wildcats will travel to Lacey, WA to play Saint Martin's University this Saturday (Feb. 8) at 7 p.m.
