Central Washington junior
TAYLER FETTIG finished second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track and Field Women's Heptathlon Championship with a score of 4604.
Fettig entered the day in second place and never lost her spot. She placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.23 meters, and put up a second place finish in the javelin with a throw of 33.52 meters which converts to 110 feet. Fettig was second to last in the 800-meter run but had built a large enough cushion to remain in second place by more than 200 points.
BRANDON RODDEWIG and
JUSTIN PETERSON began the day in second and third place in the men's decathlon, but fell a few places throughout the day to finish in sixth and seventh place respectively. Roddewig shined in the pole vault, winning the event with a mark of 4.44 meters, 14 feet 6 3/4 inches, which earned him 743 points.
Cody Thomas of Alaska Anchorage won the men's decathlon, winning five of the 10 events over the two days. Karolin Anders, also from Alaska Anchorage, won the women's heptathlon with 4997 points, and did so by winning two events and finishing no worse than fourth.
Up next, the track and field team will head to Lacey, Wash to participate in the Saint Martin's Invitational on May 3 in preparation for the GNAC Outdoor Championships the following weekend.
