Women's Track & Field Player Profile: Sydney Carter

Ellensburg, Wash. -- Each week wildcatsports.com will highlight a different Wildcat student-athlete as part of our 2020 Player Profiles series.

Name: Sydney Carter
Sport: Track & Field
Position: Jumps
Hometown: Bothell, Wash.

How many years have you been jumping in track & field?
I think 10 years?

Favorite Moment as a Wildcat?
During my freshman year, we had 2 track meets at Spokane. The first meet went terribly, I fouled out of high jump for the first time in 3 years. I had terrible jumps in long jump and triple jump. I left that meet feeling disappointed but determined to be better. A couple of weeks later, we had another meet there and it went amazing. It was the last meet of my season and I broke my personal best in every event and was a great way to end the year.

What drives you to get up in the morning and train?
My team. I couldn't imagine doing this without them. They push me to be better each day.

What is something you are currently working on?
My triple jump acceleration. I still cannot seem to do it correctly, but I have gotten a lot better after getting coached by Bmack.

Is pineapple an acceptable topping for pizza?
No! The only time pineapple anything is okay is when it is pineapple Fanta.

Biggest Pet Peeve?
I get annoyed when people don't tell me what is going on, like what our schedule looks like. I am a very free flowing person, but I also need to know what my options are.

If you were a superhero, who would you be?
Black Panther.

Who do you consider role models? Why?
Lebron James. He is a great athlete and, more importantly to me, he is a great business man. He has a great ability to monetize what he does and I love that. He is a hard worker on and off the court.

Do you have any pregame or game day rituals?
There is one song I have to listen to before I jump: Ultralight Beam by Kanye West. I have listened to it before any game, meeting, presentation, or track meet since 2016.

When you aren't training, or playing, what are your hobbies?
I like to play with makeup in my free time. I do crazy looks with insane colors. I used to use painting as my creative outlet, but now I do makeup that people will never see.

What is your hidden talent?
I have been told I am great at being one of the sweepers at basketball games. The CWU band used to cheer "Mop Girl" during the women's and men's basketball games last season.

Which actor or actress would you pick to play you in a movie?
Zendaya.

If you didn't play your position, what position would you play?  Why?
I would *attempt* to be a sprinter. I am not fast, but I mainly would choose this because I wouldn't want to leave my group.

What music do you listen to right before a game?
I listen to 2 different playlists. On the bus to a meet, I listen to calm indie music that I can sleep with. Once we get to the track I switch to a pumped up playlist that is mainly Kanye and Machine Gun Kelly.

What is something about you fans may find surprising?
I have been to over 10 countries across 3 continents. I used to live in Cambodia when I was 5. Battambang, Cambodia is my favorite place on earth and I have it tattooed on me.
