ELLENSBURG, Wash (May 20) – For the second straight season, the Central Washington University track and field team will be sending three athletes to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI on May 22-24.
All three participants are females and are highlighted by
Tayler Fettig (Olympia, WA, Olympia). Fettig, who earned all-American status during the indoor season, will be looking to do the same in the outdoors as she ranks fifth nationally in the high jump with a mark of 1.75m (8-feet 8.75 inches), which was accomplished at home during the Spike Arlt Invitational. The women's high jump will take place on Saturday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m.
Secondly,
Dani Eggleston (Longview, WA, R.A. Long) is competing in the 3000m steeplechase on Thursday at 4:10 p.m. with a national ranking of 16. Eggleston ran in this event for the first time in her career back in April, and her time of 11:12.81 was a NCAA provisional mark. In her last competition, at the GNAC Championships she improved her mark to 10:50.88. Eggleston will have to finish in the top four of her heat on Thursday to compete in the finals the following day at 4:25 p.m.
Lastly,
Connie Morgan (Hoquiam, WA, Hoquiam) will run in the 1500m run on Thursday at 2:25 p.m. She ranks 27th Nationally, but due to scratches and withdrawals, she was able to make the cut for Nationals, as the 20 top times are selected to compete in the NCAA Championships. Connie's top performance also came at the GNAC Championships where she finished with a time of 4:32.80, bettering her previous top mark by nearly six seconds. She will have to finish in the top four of her heat on Thursday to advance to the finals on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
Morgan who just recently was named CWU Athletics Female Athlete of the Year at last weekends Hall of Fame Ceremony, earned all-American status in cross country back in the fall, and hopes to add a second at the NCAA Championships.
To qualify as an All-American, participants must finish in the top eight of their respective events.
