CWU Soccer Drops Season Opener 1-0 to CSUMB

Box Score ELLENSBURG, Wash (Sept 6) – The Central Washington University women's soccer team dropped its first game of the 2014 season, losing 1-0 to Cal State University Monterey Bay.

The Wildcats started quick, earning their first corner kick of the match in the first minute. Danielle Brandli (Bellevue, WA, Interlake) engineered the first of only three shots on goal in the 16th minute. It was Brandli again in the 53rd minute with another attempt on goal but an Otter save spoiled any scoring opportunities.

CSUMB out shot CWU 9 to 3 and earned more corners, 6-2, as the Wildcats struggled to mount many attacks on goal.

The Otters broke the 0-0 tie in the 19th minute when CSUMB midfielder Jami Murray found the back of the net with a strike from the top of the box.

Mackenzie Nolte (Marysville, WA, Marysville-Pilchuck ) took the third and final shot attempt in the 85th minute to no avail. Brandli led the Wildcats with two shots on goal and Kayla Lipston (Federal Way, WA, Decatur) collected four saves in the losing effort.

CWU will look for its first win of the season and head coach Michael Farrand's 100th career win Monday, Sept 8, versus Cal State University Stanislaus.
