CWU Women's Soccer Falls 6-1 to CSUS

Box Score ELLENSBURG, Wash (Sept. 8) – The Central Washington University women's soccer (0-2) team lost 6-1 against Cal State Stanislaus in its second game of their California road trip.

The Wildcats found early success with a goal in the seventh minute when freshman MACKENZIE NOLTE pressured the goal keeper, stripped the ball and scored the first goal of the Wildcat season and of her young career.

"We came out and changed things up offensively, and played good, high pressure soccer to begin the game." Head coach Michael Farrand said.

The Wildcats fought hard to preserve the 1-0 lead, but the Warrior attack was persistent and eventually scored when CSUS forward Kirsten Coleman received a pass and scored past CWU keeper KAYLA LIPSTON to tie the contest.

Lipston finished the game with seven saves on the day, but faced turmoil all day as the Wildcat defense allowed 19 total shots, 13 of which were on goal. CWU mustered seven shots and three shots on goal.

A penalty kick in the 39th minute put the Warriors up 2-1. Back-to-back goals within 48 seconds inflated the lead to 4-1. CSSU forward Jade Poon scored three goals on the day, her final tally coming in the 61st minute.

"Youth, inexperience, and defensive errors were a huge setback for us in the early stages of the second-half," Farrand explained. "We battled back toward the end of the second-half working hard to get more points on the board."

The Wildcats will take the field again Sept. 11, versus California State University East Bay, in Nampa, Idaho on the campus of Northwest Nazarene University.
