The Central Washington University baseball team was swept by the Northwest Nazarene by scores of 10-7 and 4-0 Saturday afternoon, stretching their record to 20-23 overall and 11-17.
This day was much different from yesterday's sweep for the Wildcats; NNU pounded out 10 runs, four coming via the long ball as Josh Hatfield, Jesse Hilyard and Tyler Davis all homered.
After getting in an early 8-0 hole, the Wildcats clawed back in the top of the fifth with a six-run inning.
Cory Welch led off with a walk and
Jeff Beckman drilled his third homer of the year.
Darren Honeysett,
Myles Wesener and
Kasey Bielec then hit back-to-back-to-back singles.
Benjamin Dunbar then walked and
Randy Fuller tailed with a single of his own.
Northwest Nazarene added more due in large part to three Wildcat errors, and extended their lead to 10-6.
Colton Loomis picked up his sixth win, which leads all GNAC pitchers.
Five Wildcats had two hits in the opener with Wesener, Fuller, Jon Dailey going 2-for-4 while
Kasey Bielec and
Jeff Beckman went 2-for-5.
In game two, Ross Clevenger was the story as he ran his record to 2-0 in six shutout innings striking out eight. Clevenger no-hit the Wildcats for the better part of six and a third innings before Jon Dailey recorded the Wildcats lone hit in the contest.
The Wildcats wrap up conference play next week at Saint Martin's in Lacey, WA. The Wildcats will need to win at least three games and get some help to make the conference tournament.
