ELLENSBURG, Wash. (May 19) – Central Washington University men's basketball has announced the signing of Karsten Chaplik to join the Wildcats for the upcoming 2015-16 season.
Chaplik, a senior at Stanwood High School, averaged 20 points per game, shooting 56-percent from the field and 40-percent from behind the arc last season for the Spartans, earning Wesco 3A North Co-Player of the Year honors.
"We are exited for Karsten to join our program," CWU Assistant Coach
Drew Harris said about Chaplik. "He has a high basketball IQ, and has good size for a guard. His ability to shoot, specifically the mid-range pull up jumper, is one of his biggest strengths and will help him be successful at this level."
As a three-year varsity player, Chaplik and the Spartans enjoyed a 50-15 record including 39-1 in league games claiming three league titles and two district titles.
"He not only has a great basketball mind, but he is a very bright kid and his educational bounds are limitless," Harris added. "As a person, Karsten is the type of kid any coach would love to have in their program, he is the complete student-athlete both on and off the court."
Chaplik is even more impressive in the classroom holding a 3.98 grade point average and a National Honor Society inductee in 2013. The 6-foot-3 guard was a member of multiple scholastic teams that earned state titles including; Technology problem solving (2012), manufacturing prototype (2012), video game design (2013), and dragster design (2014 & '15). His state-winning video game design team also placed fifth at Nationals in 2013.
Chaplik, who was born in Mount Vernon, plans on majoring in Engineering at Central Washington.
