ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Apr. 3) – The Central Washington University baseball team dropped both games against Western Oregon University, 5-9 and 0-8, completing the sweep for the Wolves. The Wildcats are now 13-14 overall and 9-9 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference games. The Wolves are 14-13 and 9-7 in GNAC play.
In game on Nick Snyder's three run blast in the first inning paced the Wolves' offense. Western Oregon scored again in the third and then put up runs in every inning from the sixth on.
The Wildcats scored their first run in the fourth inning when
Darren Honeysett scored on a wild pitch.
In the fifth inning a bunt single by
Jonathan Dailey scored
Benjamin Dunbar after a throwing error.
The Wildcats added another run in the sixth on a wild pitch, scoring
Reid Martinez.
Tanner Romo singled home
Dan Whitney and
Myles Wesener in the eighth inning, bringing the score to 8-5.
Martinez,
Randy Fuller, and Dunbar each recorded two hits. Romo notched three hits and a pair of runs batted in.
McKenzie Gaul (1-3) was charged with the loss. The southpaw went four innings and allowed four runs, on four hits and five walks.
In game two Gary Steindorf (1-2) silenced the Wildcats' bats, allowing just three hits over seven innings for his first win of the season.
The Wolves again put up runs in the first, plating two. They then scored two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
Jake Levin (3-3) was charged with the loss. He went four innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits. He struck out three hitters.
Christopher Dalto came on for the seventh inning and tossed an inning of shutout relief.
