Men's Basketball Defeats Northwest 100-93 in Overtime

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- The Central Washington University men's basketball team defeated Northwest University 100-93 in overtime Tuesday evening in the Wildcats last tuneup before the start of the season.

The game was an exhibition for the Wildcats who open the 2017-18 season on Nov. 10 in Portland, Ore. against Cal State San Bernardino, followed by a Nov. 11 matchup with Monterey Bay.

Regulation ended in dramatic fashion when CWU's Drake Rademacher hit a three-pointer with six-seconds left to put the Wildcats up 85-82.  Northwest's Danie Ghebremichael threw up an offhand desperation shot that banked in as the buzzer sounded to force overtime.

In overtime, the Wildcats outscored the Eagles 15-8, five from Malik Montoya who finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Junior Naim Ladd led all scorers with 23 points on 9 of 15 shooting, including three triples.  Sage Woodruff came off the bench to score 18 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc.  Also scoring in double figures for the Wildcats was freshman Khalil Shabazz who added two rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Senior center Fuquan Niles nearly had a double-double with nine points, nine rebounds, and added six blocks in 24 minutes of play.

Central Washington shot 49.3-percent from the field (36 of 73), and 40.6-percent from behind the arc (13-32).

Ghebremichael led the Eagles with 21 points, while Kaelan Hicks and Alex Smith each added 19.
