NAMPA, Idaho (Oct. 5) – The Central Washington University women's soccer team fell to Northwest Nazarene University, 3-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.
The Wildcats fall to 1-6-3 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play. The Crusaders improve to 7-4-0, with a 4-2-0 record in GNAC matches.
"NNU outplayed us from the beginning to end," CWU Head Coach
Michael Farrand said afterward. "Mary [Trigg] continues to build a competitive program in the GNAC. Her results speak for themselves."
A quick break off the initial whistle gave the Crusaders their first chance on goal just 41 seconds into the contest. Anita Maryskova fired a shot wide of the Wildcats' net, but the Wildcats mounted a counter attack and
Whitney Lowe got the first chance goalward for Central Washington, but Daniele Ortiz turned the shot aside.
Lexsi Manning then got a chance three minutes later, but her shot whistled wide.
Northwest Nazarene broke the level footing in the 12
th minute. A through ball threaded through the Wildcats' back line gave Rikki Myers a lane inward and she finished her chance for a 1-0 advantage.
Less than two minutes later, a foul inside the Wildcats' 18 awarded a penalty to Madi Taylor. Taylor converted the penalty goal, giving the Crusaders a 2-0 cushion.
The Crusaders added a third goal in the 61
st minute. Myers took a long run up the right wing and dribbled into the Wildcats' 18, then onto the top of the six. She played a pass on the deck that Madi Taylor one-timed into the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage.
The Wildcats finished with seven shots and three corner kicks.
Emily Holt and
Madeline Fletcher each made two saves.
"We continue to be our own kryptonite," Farrand added. "We are very creative when creating goals for our opponents. We dug ourselves the ultimate hole and we need to find a way to put our year back together."
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 7) in Ellensburg to take on Western Oregon for Homecoming. Kick-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
