Wildcats Fall to Falcons 61-79

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Central Washington University men's basketball team lost to Seattle Pacific 61-79 Saturday evening, pushing the Wildcats losing streak to seven games.

The Wildcats fall to 12-10 on the season and 7-9 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, while the Falcons improve to 11-13, 7-9 in the GNAC.

The seven-game losing streak is the longest the Wildcats have witnessed in over 20 years, the last coming during the 1995-96 season.

The Wildcats shot 35.3 percent from the field (24 of 68), 33.3 percent from three, and made 4 of 9 from the free throw line.  The Falcons shot at a 48 percent clip and found the free throw line 39 times converting 24 into points.

Jawan Stepney led CWU with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Sage Woodruff was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures, adding 13 points off the bench including three triples.

The Central Washington bench outscored SPU's reserves 27-16, with Chris-Michael Garret and Jerome Bryant each adding seven.

Coleman Wooten paced the Falcons attack, scoring 24 points and hauling down nine rebounds.  Eleven of Wooten's points come from the charity stripe.  The Falcons had four starters score in double figures with Joe Rasmussen, Oliver-Paul Betu, and Gavin Ling adding 15, 12, and 10 points, respectively.

Central Washington never led in the contest, trailing by as many as 15 points in the first half before heading into the locker room down 21-33.

The Wildcats pulled to within seven in the second half on a steal and fast-break layup by Marc Rodgers, but that is as close as the game would get.  Nine of the Falcons final 12 points came from the free throw line.

Next week, the Wildcats will fight for their right to play in the GNAC Tournament when they host Western Washington and Simon Fraser on Feb. 16 and 18, respectively.  The Feb. 18 matchup will tipoff at 8 p.m. on will be broadcast live on ROOT SPORTS.  The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a free t-shirt.
