CALDWELL, Idaho (Mar. 11) – The Central Washington University baseball dropped its Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader to Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday. The Wildcats are on 9-9 on the season and 3-5 in GNAC play.
Central Washington allowed a pair of six-run innings, one in each game. In game one, the Crusaders staked out a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the first. In game two, the Crusaders' big inning came in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the first in game two,
Conor Plaisance scored on a passed ball, giving CWU a 1-0 lead.
Dylan Freyre homered to left field in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
Michael Heinevetter then doubled home
Sam Welton in the fourth for a 6-3 score.
The Crusaders added a run in the fifth, gaining a 7-3 advantage.
James Smith III reach on an error in the eighth, allowing
Kyle Stahl to score.
Griffin Davis (1-1) was charged with the loss. He went 4.1 innings and allowed eight hits, seven runs, and two walks. He struck out eight hitters. Freyre finished game one 3-for-4, with one run scored, and one run batted in. Stahl, Plaisance, and Welton each scored a run.
Brice McCulloch, Heinevetter, and
Christopher Dalto each added hits.
In the bottom of the first in game two,
Jake Levin singled home Freyre. Freyre then hit a two-run homerun in the third inning.
Plaisance finished a perfect 3-for-3, with one run scored. Freyre went 2-for-2, with two runs scored and two batted in. Levin, Stahl, and Heinevetter each added hits.

The Wildcats are back in action next Saturday (Mar. 18) against Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon.
