LACEY, Wash. (Sept. 30) – The Central Washington University women's soccer team battled both the rain and Saint Martin's University in a 1-1 draw.
The Wildcats are now 1-5-3 on the season, including a 0-2-2 record in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Saints fall to 0-8-1 overall and 0-3-1 in GNAC play.
"We put ourselves under with a goal we gave away in the first on a ball that we misplayed out of the back," CWU Head Coach
Michael Farrand said. "We got counter attacked and they finished. They were well organized and fought well."
Despite generating six shots in the opening 36 minutes, the Wildcats found themselves trailing by one in the 38
th minute. Lauren Allison and the Saints capitalized on a turnover in their attacking third and Allison finished from close range.
Following the halftime whistle, the Wildcats responded quickly. They fired a barrage of shots at Saints' goalkeeper Ali Koehler before
Sophia Keenan finished her third goal of the season.
Kelsey Bechtholdt picked up her first assist on the season.
"We got back into the game again [after Keenan's goal] and went into overtime," Farrand added. "We had five real chances to win it in the first overtime. Great production in the second half, especially generating chances."
The Wildcats bombarded the Saints' goal with shots, but Koehler kept the score level with 12 saves.
Emily Holt finished with six saves. The Wildcats totaled 30 shots.
"We didn't want to leave points on the table, but Saint Martin's fought hard all game. We will regroup and get ready for NNU," Farrand finished.
The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday (Oct. 5) against Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.
