LEWISTON, Idaho (Feb. 3) – The Central Washington University baseball team was swept in its opening doubleheader against Lewis-Clark State College.  The Warriors took game one, 10-1, before claiming game two, 11-5.
The Wildcats are 0-2 on the season, while LC State is now 2-0.
"We didn't get our offense going in game one and made some critical mistakes on defense," CWU Head Coach
Desi Storey said.  "We got solid offense in game two and played well on defense, but we just couldn't overcome a bad first inning.  I thought we had some guys play really well,  Jimmy [Smith] and Jaden [Hassell] both had some really good swings.  I also thought our bullpen was really good in game two."

Mackenzie Gaul (0-1) got the call in game one.  The southpaw allowed six hits, four runs, and four walks over 3.1 innings.  Only two runs were earned and Gaul struck out one hitter.

Jaden Hassell delivered the Wildcats' only run in game one, driving a pitch over the center field wall for his first round tripper of the season.
Justin Hampson,
Ty Deckwa, and
Michael Heinevetter each added a hit.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the second inning.  A single from Riley Way drove in the game's first run, giving LC State an early 1-0 lead.  A sacrifice fly added a second run before the Wildcats ended the inning.

LC State drove home a pair of runs in the fourth inning.  A double down the left field line from Way plated the first run, while a ground out later in the inning brought home the second.

Trailing 4-0 in the sixth inning, Hassell launched his solo blast and cut the Warriors' lead to 4-1.

The Warriors added a pair of runs in the sixth off of a double down the right field line, a run in the eighth on a throwing error, and three runs in the eight on a three-run big fly.

Game two started much the same way game one ended.  The Warriors' offense kept its momentum from the tail end of the opener and plated nine runs in the bottom of the first.

Griffin Davis (0-1) got the start and went 0.2 innings.  He allowed seven earned runs, on two hits, and walked four hitters.

Hassell plated his second RBI of the season, while
Yi-an Pan and
Yi-Fan Pan combined for three runs batted in.
James Smith III doubled twice and finished game two with three hits.  Hampson and Hassell each recorded two hits, while
Ty Deckwa, Heinevetter, Parton, Yi-an, Yi-Fan, and
Jesse Unger each added a hit.

Smith doubled to lead off the second inning, before being driven in by Yi-an for the Wildcats' first run.  A single from Hassell in the third brought home Hampson.

The Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning.  Yi-Fan brought Smith around to score, before an error allowed
Tristin Parton to score later in the inning.  In the seventh inning, Hassell came around to score on a ground out.

The Warriors bullpen quieted the Wildcats' bats in the final two frames, claiming the 11-5 victory.
