Yi-Fan Delivers Twice As Wildcats Complete Sweep of NNU

NAMPA, Idaho (Mar. 5) – The Central Washington University (9-5, 4-0) baseball team completed its four-game sweep of Northwest Nazarene University (2-12, 0-4) on Monday.

Yi-Fan Pan picked up two game-winning hits, including swatting a two-run shot in the front end of the doubleheader.  He then picked up a two-run single in the back end.

"This is what we hope to keep going," CWU Head Coach Desi Storey said.  "Guy's stepped up big time when they needed to.  Yi-Fan got two big hits for us.  He hits one out and then comes up with a nice single in game two.  We went a bit quiet through the middle innings, but we got it down when we needed."

Mackenzie Gaul got the start in game three.  He went five innings, allowed one run, on four hits, and struck out one.  Tyler Hoefer (2-0) got the win, pitching 1.2 innings of relief.

Yi-Fan led the Wildcats with two runs batted in, a run scored, and two walks.  His homerun in the top of the 10th gave the Wildcats their 6-4 advantage.  James Smith III, Christopher Dalto, and Jesse Unger each collected an RBI.

The Nighthawks staked out a 2-0 lead with a run in both the third and sixth innings, before Unger launched the first pitch of his seventh inning at-bat over the left field wall.

An inning later, Smith roped a double to left center field, scoring Tristin Parton.  Dalto picked up his RBI on a ground out, before a passed ball brought another run home. After eight innings of play, Central led 4-2.

A solo homerun and a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth allowed the Nighthawks to tie the game, before Yi-Fan's blast in the 10th.

In game two, Dom Baker (1-0) earned the win in relief.  He hurled 2.1 innings and allowed just one run, on three hits.  Yi-an Pan earned his first save of the season, fanning both batters he faced.

Michael Heinevetter, Yi-Fan, and Dalto each recorded two runs batted in, while Dustin Braun, Colton Bunt, Smith, and Justin Hampson each recorded an RBI.  Smith scored three times, while Heinevetter crossed the plate twice.

The Wildcats got the scoring going in the first, with Braun recorded an RBI.  The Nighthawks were quick to strike back, tying the game in the first and taking a 3-1 lead after a two-run shot in the second.

Heinevetter brought the game back level, 3-3, in the third for the Wildcats, driving in a pair with a double.

Northwest Nazarene reclaimed its lead in the third, scoring a trio of runs for a 6-3 advantage.

Dalto recorded a sac fly in the fifth, before Bunt singled through the left side and brought home another run.  The Wildcats weren't quite done in the fifth, as Hampson singled to right and tied the game at 6-6.

The Nighthawks took the lead once more in the bottom of the fifth, this time on a sac fly.

Smith wasted no time erasing the deficit, singling through the left side in the sixth to allow Deckwa to score.  Yi-Fan played the role of hero once more, this time singling up the middle for a pair of RBIs and a 9-7 lead.  Dalto drove in another run later in the inning with his second sac fly of the contest.  Yi-an came on in the seventh and shut the door, earning his first save.

The Wildcats are back in action on 10th and 11th as they host a pair of doubleheaders against Concordia (Ore.).
