ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington University women's basketball travels to Nampa, Idaho to take part in the Fairfield Inn Tournament this weekend. The team takes on Westminster on Friday at 1 p.m. PT. Then on Saturday, the Wildcats scrap with Colorado Christian at 1 p.m. PT.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coaches' Poll featured the Griffins in second place after receiving five first place votes. The Griffins made the NCAA Division II first round and finished the 2018-19 season with a 21-9 record. They were 17-5 in conference play finishing second in the regular season and made it to the finals of the RMAC Championship.
Hunter Krebs and Sarah McGinley were named the players to watch for the Griffins. Krebs was named Second Team All-RMAC after scoring 214 points and grabbing 93 total rebounds in 17 games played. Her season averages included 12.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.
McGinley is a transfer from Colorado Christian University. As a sophomore, McGinley averaged 13.9 points per game while pulling down 5.3 rebounds per game. She was named Second Team All-RMAC for her performance last season.
The Griffins got their season started in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Griffins took down Midwestern State University Texas 78-72 in a close one on Nov. 8. The following day, the Griffins handled the University of Texas at Tyler 61-54.

In the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Cougars were picked to finish 12th out of 16 teams. The spot is one better than what they received entering the 2018-19 season. The roster features just four returners and 10 newcomers to the program.
Marie Tsoungui and Brianna Pribble were listed as the players to watch for the Cougars. Last season, Tsoungui started 21 games for the Cougars. She averaged 6.5 points per game while grabbing 3.7 rebounds per game. Pribble appeared in 28 games for the Cougars last season. She averaged 2.3 points per game and had less than a rebound per game.
The Cougars opened their 2019-20 season by competing at the DII Conference Challenge in Austin, Texas. They opened their season with a 72-44 loss to St. Edwards University on Nov. 8. The next day, the team dropped a game against the University of Arkansas Fort Smith 73-59.
LAST TIME OUT vs. HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY
The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season, a close game with in-region foe Hawaii Pacific. The Sharks held on for a slim 81-76 win inside Nicholson Pavilion.
The game saw a number of runs and both squads looked to push the pace. Both teams shot the ball well with CWU having a slight edge 47.4%-46.2%. A 15-4 edge in bench points and a 40-34 points in the paint advantage went to the Sharks.
Leading the way for the Wildcats were
Samantha Bowman and
Alexis Pana who both finished with a double-double. Bowman was the leading scorer and rebounder with 22 and 16, respectively. She finished 10-14 shooting and had five of her boards come on the offensive end.
Pana added 16 points and grabbed 10 boards for CWU. She finished 5-9 from the field and was a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line to go along with five assists. Shaw and Flores also scored in double figures with 15 and 13, respectively.
CWU vs. WESTMINSTER HISTORY
The Wildcats and the Griffins have never played each other. Friday's game will be the first between the two schools.
CWU vs. COLORADO CHRISTIAN HISTORY
The Wildcats and Cougars have only met three times over the years. Two of those matchups came just six days a part in 2009. The first meeting took place on Nov. 11, 2009. The Cougars beat the Wildcats 70-58 in Seattle, Wash. Then on Nov. 27, 2009, The Wildcats fell 81-70 in Nampa, Idaho against the Cougars. The last time the two teams played each other was on Nov. 30, 2013. It was a closely contested game, as the Cougars edged out an 80-75 win over the Wildcats.
