Women's Basketball Travels to Centennial State

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Central Washington University women's basketball team heads to the Holiday Inn Denver Cherry Creek Classic.

SCOUTING COLORADO CHRISTIAN
The Cougars are winless on the season at 0-4.  They dropped their first two games of the season to St. Edward's University, 72-44, and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, 73-59.  They then took part in the Fairfield Inn Tournament in Nampa, Idaho, where they dropped both games to Northwest Nazarene, 84-67, and Central Washington, 72-45.

Sacha Griffin and Borrkelyn Hurlbut are leading the Cougars' offense, scoring 11.3 and 10.3 points per game.  Hurlbut leads Colorado Christian in rebounds as well, hauling them in at a clip of 6.8 boards per game.

Colorado Christian is averaging just 53 points per game, while allowing 76.  The Cougars are struggling from the floor, converting at a clip of just 34.3 percent.  Behind the arc, they are knocking down shots at just 19.4 percent.  

The first time the Wildcats and Cougars met, Central Washington recorded a 27-point victory.  Kaelie Flores led the Crimson and Black with 18 points.  She also recorded eight rebounds.  Taylor Shaw notched 15 points, while Alexis Pana added 13.  The final double digit scorer for Coach Richardson-Thornley was Samantha Bowman, who chipped in 10 points.  Bowman also led the Wildcats with nine rebounds.  Central shot 51.85 percent from the floor and hauled in 43 rebounds.  

Hurlbut led the Cougars' offense with 14 points, but she did register five turnovers as well.  Both Marie Tsoungui and Sacha Griffin scored 13 points.  Tsoungui led the Cougars with six rebounds.  Colorado Christian shot just 31.7 percent against the Wildcats and scored just 14 points in the paint, to CWU's 38.

SCOUTING MSU DENVER
The Roadrunners are also 0-4 on the season.  They have yet to play a home game, spending the first few weeks of the season on the road.  Most recently, the Roadrunners fell in an exhibition to Concordia (Neb.), 81-65.

Jaiden Gallaway leads MSU Denver's scoring, averaging 9.3 points per game.  The Roadrunners do not have a double digit scorer and are averaging just 50 points per game, while allowing 69.5.  Bree Wellington is second in scoring, putting up eight points per game.  MSU Denver is shooting 33.6 percent from the floor, including a 27.4 mark from beyond the arc.  

The rebounding battle has also not gone in the Roadrunners' favor.  They are out rebounded, on average, 41-31.  Jaela Richardson leads the rebounding effort, hauling in 6.5 boards per game.  

Central Washington and MSU Denver have met only twice, with the Roadrunners coming away victorious both times.  The first meeting came on November 23, 2012.  MSU Denver recorded a  76-67 victory.  They met again on November 18, 2017, when the Roadrunners captured a nearly identical win in a 76-65 affair.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats dropped a close exhibition battle with DI Seattle University on Tuesday, 75-65.  Brianna Phiakhamngon led the 'Cats with 18 points, while Alexis Pana recorded 16.  Samantha Bowman rounded out the double digit scorers for the Crimson and Black with 12 points.
