Men's Basketball Opens GNAC Play Against SPU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University men's basketball team opens GNAC play against Seattle Pacific University.

"We get to start conference play at home versus two good programs," CWU Head Coach Brandon Rinta said.  "Seattle Pacific and Saint Martin's were the two best teams in the conference a year ago. These early games will give everyone in the GNAC a taste of where they stack up. It should be a good environment in the Pavilion with us hosting double headers both nights."

The Falcons are 3-4 on the season and have won their last three games.  All three wins have come by margins of seven or greater.  In their last outing, they took down Point Loma, 96-89. 
 
Divant'e Moffitt leads Seattle Pacific in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game.  Gavin Long and Harry Cavell are both average double digits at 11.1 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. The Falcons are scoring an even 70 points a night and allowing 70.9, placing them third in the GNAC for scoring defense.  Seattle Pacific is also fourth in shooting percentage.  The Falcons are shooting 40.6 percent from the floor and 36 percent from beyond the arc. 
 
The rebounding effort is led by Harry Cavell, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game.  Gavin Long is close by, hauling in five boards per game.  Cavell leads in defensive rebounds (27)1, while Long leads in total offensive rebounds (15).  Seattle Pacific is outrebounding their opponents 31.4 to 28.9. 
 
The Falcons have only allowed 80 or more points just once in their first seven games.  Point Loma scored 89 points against SPU in the Falcons last outing.
 
Moffitt earned GNAC Player of the Week honors after scoring a total of 43 points on 63.6 percent shooting last week.
 
Shaw Anderson had 29 points and 10 rebounds in two games last week, knocking down 62 percent of his shots from the field. He scored 20 points against Sonoma State, making a trio of treys. 
 
Cavell had a double-double at Sonoma State with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  He added 16 points and seven rebounds against Point Loma.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Central Washington extended its winning streak to four games with an 82-67 victory over Corban University. 
 
Davon Bolton led the Wildcats with 18 points.  He is averaging 8.2 points per game.  Amari Stafford came off the bench to score 15 points for the Crimson and Black.
 
The Wildcats are averaging 77.3 points and are hauling in 34.7 rebounds per game.  Central is currently second in the GNAC with a shooting percentage of 50.2.  The Wildcats are 22nd in Division II in fouls per game, averaging 14. 
 
CWU v SPU HISTORY
Central is 16-25 against Seattle Pacific since 2002.  The Wildcats have lost the last five meetings against Seattle Pacific. 
 
In Ellensburg last year, the Falcons came away with a 74-62 victory.  Jeryn Lucas led the Crimson and Black with 19 points.  He finished 7-for-18 from the field.  Malcolm Cola led the rebounding, bringing in seven rebounds.
 
The last victory for the Wildcats came on January 12, 2017.  Central picked up an 89-85 victory in Ellensburg.  Naim Ladd led the scoring with 26 points, while Dom Hunter chipped in 20.
