ELLENSBURG, Wash. – A select few from the Central Washington University track and field team will open their season this weekend. The Wildcats are set to compete at the Candy Cane Multi-Events hosted by Eastern Washington University. The Event starts on Friday at 12 p.m. and will conclude on Saturday afternoon.

Brittany Aanstad said. "We typically produce national level marks at this meet. For some, I believe they will do just that this weekend. Erykah [Weems] and Sidney [Trinidad] are hitting the track for the first time since appearing at the Outdoor NCAA Championships last May. I know they have put in the work in the offseason to have a spectacular indoor season."
LAST TIME OUT
The last time
Sidney Trinidad competed indoors, it was at the Great Northwest Athletic Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 16 and 17. She was a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that won their event with a time of 3:50.64. Other standout performances included a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97. Trinidad took 10
th in the pentathlon with 2,963 points.
Erykah Weems is also set to compete this weekend. She was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that won the event at the Indoor GNAC Championships. Weems won the 400 meters with a time of 56.24. Weems earned the same spot in the 200-meter dash. She had a time of 25.36. Weems grabbed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26.
A pair of newcomers will join Trinidad and Weems this weekend. McCall DeChenne and Luke Simonson will make their collegiate debuts. DeChenne joins the team as a true freshman. Simonson enters as a transfer from Spokane Community College.
LAST INDOOR SEASON
The Wildcat women fell just short to Seattle Pacific in the battle for the Indoor GNAC crown a season ago. The Falcons picked up critical points in the final two events of the day, the 4x400-meter relay and the pole vault, to finished just ahead of the Wildcats at 150 points.
The Wildcat men were in contention for the GNAC title, but fell short in their chase for the championship. Western Washington won their first championship since 2014 with a score of 138.5 points. They finished well ahead of second-place Alaska Anchorage, who scored 114.5 points, The Wildcats rounded out the top three with 97 points
LAST INDOOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last March, the Wildcats walked away from the Indoor NCAA Championships with seven All-American honors.
Halle Irvine is the only returner that earned All-American honors a season ago. Irvine had a strong showing in the pole vault. Irvine cleared 12 feet 6.75 inches, giving her an 11
th place finish. The mark was good enough for Second Team All-American honors.
