ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University women's soccer team fell to Hawaii Pacific University (1-1-0), 3-2, in a non-conference meeting.
The Wildcats (2-3-0) were able to take the lead twice, but each time the Sharks found the equalizer.
"It hurt," CWU Head Coach
Michael Farrand said afterward. "We played great attacking soccer, the opening goal was one of the best goals scored on this pitch. It's our response after the goal that we have to get better at. Honestly, I think our older ladies in the back need to step up and play better. Going forward, I think the build up has been awesome. We made Hawaii have to make a lot of adjustments. We gave them chances in our end and they played hard. Can't take anything from Pacific, they played hard."
Central's offense started early, picking up a shot from
Makinzie Packwood in the second minute. Marissa Froio made the stop for the Sharks. No more than 40 seconds later,
Olivia Sloan found her first chance, sending a shot wide left of the upper corner. Sloan got a second chance in the sixth minute, but this time Froio turned the shot aside.
Sloan found the back of the net in the 10

The Sharks responded a minute and a half later. A free kick from Ebony Madrid was sent into the box to a waiting Callie Rheaume for a headed goal.
With the score line level again at 1-1, the Wildcats went back on the offensive. Sloan fired a shot just over the bar in the 15
th minute. The Sharks responded by nearly slotting a go-ahead marker as Madrid dribbled around a diving
Megan Fox and sent a weak shot toward the goal line. Freshman defender
Maci Parke swept the shot off the goal line to preserve the 1-1 tie. The ensuing corner kick gave way to a headed effort from Madrid, but it sailed over the bar.
In the 24
th minute, a shot from
Madison Bradley whistled over the bar. Rheaume had the next effort at goal in the 29
th minute. Her shot sailed wide left of the net.
Sloan fired a shot, which was saved by Froio, in the 31
st minute. The counter attack from the Sharks found Madrid open once more, but her shot was sent high.
After the restart, Bradley found the first chance for Central, but her shot went over the bar.
The Crimson and Black nabbed a go-ahead goal in the 51
st minute.
Bella Brown broke into the 18 from the right wing and fired off a shot. Froio kept the initial offer on goal out, but the carom spun back towards the goal line.
Peyton Vogel slid into the goal, knocking the ball over the line for her first collegiate goal and a 2-1 lead.
Hawaii Pacific wasted no time finding the equalizer. After a shot from Rheaume went by the wayside in the 52
nd minute, Madrid put home the equalizing goal after hauling in a through ball from Katie Pothier.
In the 60
th minute, Fox turned aside an effort on goal from Madrid to keep the score tied at 2-2.
Paige Devine nearly broke the deadlocked score in the 69
th minute, but Froio parried the shot. A chance from
Madison Hinkel in the 70
th minute went wide right.
Hawaii Pacific pulled ahead for the first time in the 84
th minute, but it was the only lead they needed. Kayli Ann Yoshioka put her shot into the back of the net for a 3-2 advantage.
