2018 STATS
The Cougars compiled a 7-7-4 record in 2018, including a 6-4-2 mark in CCAA play. Their season came to its conclusion in the CCAA Championships where the Cougars and San Francisco State went to penalty kicks. San Francisco State came away with a 3-2 advantage in penalties.
San Marcos opens the 2019 season against Central Washington. The Cougars played one GNAC team last season, taking a 1-0 victory over Western Oregon.
Lauren Perry returns to the Cougars' lineup after recording a team-high eight points in 2018. She scored three goals and added two assists to the ledger. All three of her goals were game winners.
As a team, the Cougars had 10 different goal scorers last season, eight of which scored just once.
Madyson Brown returns to Bobby Renneisen's lineup after leading the Cougars with three assists in the previous campaign. She played in all 18 of the Cougars' games, starting 16.
On the back line, Channel Fenix and Jessica Harloe returns after playing a team-high 1,698 and 1,638 minutes respectively. In total, nine players accumulated over 1,000 minutes for Renneisen and the Cougars. The pair anchored a back line which allowed 14 goals and 163 shots.
Yesenia Betancourt handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties for San Marcos in 2018, appearing in 15 games and starting 14. She allowed 10 goals, on 123 shots, and posted a record of 6-5-2. Betancourt posted six clean sheets on the season, coupled with a goals against average of 0.75. Bailey Cockrill appeared in six games, four starts, for the Cougars. She posted a record of 1-2-2 with one clean sheet.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats nabbed a 2-1 victory over Fresno Pacific University, thanks to a pair of second half goals.
Fresno Pacific found the score line early, as Mackenzie Reynolds put a shot past the keeper for a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute.
After regrouping at half time,
Maci Parke scored her first collegiate goal in the 59
th minute after receiving a pass from
Bryn Waite. The game remained even until
Sydney Lowe fired a shot past a diving keeper in the 85
th minute.
Central outshot Fresno Pacific 11-8, including 6-3 in shots on goal.
Emily Thomson made a pair of saves in her first victory of 2019.
CSSM v CWU HISTORY
This will be the two program's first meeting. Cal State San Marcos is a relatively new addition to the NCAA Division II ranks. The Cougars received approval to join the Division II membership process in July 2014.
San Marcos eventually met, now GNAC member, Concordia University in the NAIA National Tournament during the 2014 season. The Cavaliers squeaked out a 1-0 victory over the Cougars in Orange Beach, Alabama.
