Track and Field Adds Two Hurdlers to Signing Class

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Central Washington University Track and Field squad has added two signees to their 2021 class.

"Sarah and Connor are two of the best hurdlers in their class." CWU Assistant Track and Field Coach Brittany Aanstad said.  "Both athletes are a perfect fit for Central Washington. When you represent the Wildcats, you are representing a great school and a flourishing athletic department. Our staff is excited for these two additions and we are working hard to build on the 2021 class."

Connor Russell is a 6-foot hurdler from Chehalis, Washington where he attended W.F. West High School.  Russell had a standout career for the Bearcats earning All-Area Team while setting personal records of 15.26 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 40.38 seconds in the 300m hurdles.  He also received an all-academic award to go along with his athletic accomplishments.

"When I decided I wanted to go to Central, it was more of a commitment to the track family than the track program. On our visit, Coach Aanstad told us that if we got injured, we would still be expected to show up to practice supporting the team. That was what sold me on committing to CWU."

Sarah Sewell is a 5-foot-5 hurdler, jumps and sprinter from Mill Creek, Washington where she attended Henry Jackson High School.  With the Timberwolves, Sewell currently holds the freshman class school record in the 100m hurdles and the sophomore school records in the 300m hurdles, the 400 meter and the triple jump.  She also qualified for state in cross country her sophomore and junior years.

"I'm excited and thankful to attend CWU and be part of the Wildcat track team!"
