INSIGHT FROM HEAD COACH RANDI RICHARDSON-THORNLEY
"This is another great opportunity to test ourselves and grow this week. We have two very tough opponents in Westminster and West Texas A&M. The effort and execution this week have to be higher than last. The margin of error is going to continue to get smaller and smaller. We have a sense of urgency to execute and compete. I'm excited to see how we've grown from last week and how we step up and compete this week."
SCOUTING THE NNU CLASSIC
The first test for the Wildcats will be the Westminster (Utah) Griffins. The Griffins have yet to play a regular season game this year, and are fresh off of a 2020-21 season that had a 13-6 overall record and an appearance in the West Regional Final Sweet 16. The Griffins had taken down Black Hills State and Western Colorado before finally falling to Azusa Pacific.
Last season the Griffins averaged 69.6 points per game on a team .476 field goal percentage and .370 from beyond the arc. The post was where the Griffins dominated their opponents out rebounding them with an average of 35.1 alongside 4.1 blocks per game.
Next up for the 'Cats are the Buffalos from West Texas A&M. The Buffs sport a 2-3 record this season after taking on the D2CCA Tipoff Classic presented by Suddenlink and the South-Central Regional Challenge. Most notably, the Buffs picked up a win against No. 16 Southwestern Oklahoma State, 81-68.
This season the Buffs are averaging 65.8 points per game on a .365 field goal percentage and .212 from beyond the arc. The Buffs have a dominant presence in the post, averaging 40.4 rebounds and 5.8 blocks per game.
