QUOTING HEAD COACH RANDI RICHARDSON-THORNLEY
"Excited to be home and be able to play in our own gym in front of our Wildcat supports, family, and friends. This weekend will present another great opportunity for our team to compete at a high level and continue to grow. Westminster is an extremely talented team whom we just played last weekend and Metro is another very high-level program, we will have to play very well to compete against both of these teams."
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Seattle Pacific, a familiar GNAC opponent, will be joining the tournament to face off against the Rocky Mountain opponents. The 'Cats and Falcons are slated to square off a week from today on Thursday, December 2
nd at 7:30 PM in Seattle.
The Griffins from Westminster are a familiar opponent as the 'Cats dropped the opening match of the NNU Classic to them, 71-78. The 'Cats struggled with shooting in the opening quarter giving the Griffins a 25-13 lead that was too much to overcome. After their matchup, the Griffins went on to take on the Nighthawks from Northwest Nazarene and wound up falling 54-61, bringing them to 1-1 on the season.
The Roadrunners from MSU Denver currently sit 2-1 on the season, with wins over Angelo State (65-47), and Texas A&M Kingsville (44-50). Their only loss of the season was a triple-overtime loss to Texas Women's University, 83-86. They currently average 66 points per game on a .417 shooting percentage as a team. While they do average 44.3 rebounds per game, they've also given up an average of 21 turnovers per game.
WILDCATS THIS SEASON
The 'Cats sit 3-1 this season after trips to Turlock, California, for the CCAA-GNAC Crossover and Nampa, Idaho, for the NNU Classic. Opening up the season with big wins over regional teams Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay has given the young team confidence as they prepare to head into conference play. Leading the 'Cats in scoring is senior
Kizzah Maltezo. Maltezo posts a 21 points per game average, and leads the 'Cats in field goals made, three-point field goals made, and steals.
In the post Junior
Samantha Bowman has been deadly all year. With 59 total rebounds through four games with a 14.8 average, she gives the 'Cats the ability to maintain possession and control the pace. Add in a shooting percentage of .604 from the field and .538 from beyond the arc, and she quickly becomes a versatile tool that can create offense anywhere on the court.
