ABOUT THE MEET
This is the first indoor event for the Wildcats since the GNAC Championships in late February of 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the NCAA Championships that year, and last year's indoor season was cancelled as well.
The Wildcats will be taking four athletes to the event. Senior McCall Dechenne headlines a small group of multi athletes. Joining her in the heptathlon will be freshman Sarah Sewell. For the men, junior
Chris Hines and sophomore
Logan Easley will participate in the decathlon.
Winners in each category will receive an ornament for the Christmas tree.
QUOTING MULTIS COACH BRITTANY AANSTAD
"It'll be exciting to be in that environment. It's usually a really good meet for us right out of the gate. This time may be a little different. First indoor meet for three of those athletes. Competing in the decathlon and heptathlon indoors is all around different. Everything is modified. We have to run a 55-meter dash at Eastern because of their track size. We'll be competing on a 200-meter track instead of an outdoor track which is 400 meters. It's learning how to get your bearings running on a track that's half the size of what you train on. You have to learn to pace yourself. It's a huge advantage to compete indoors because of the lack of elements. We're really excited for this weekend."
