QUOTABLE
"I couldn't be happier and more excited for this team to get to play these two games. We have endured a lot of challenges and disappointments this year, including these last two weeks. Going into these games, yes, we do sit at a disadvantage with zero full-team practices heading into this contest in 14 days. However, it's not going to change our mind-set and approach. We are excited to compete!" CWU Head Coach
Randi Richardson-Thornley said. "Our team has done a great job of handling the challenges and stress that has come along with Covid. They've kept their perspective bigger than themselves, and I really couldn't be any prouder of who they have been through this process. How WWU has played in these last four games has been super impressive considering all the challenges their own program has endured during this time as well. It just goes to show how strong their leadership and culture is."
SCOUTING WESTERN WASHINGTON
The Vikings have had a short yet strong season so far, posting a 4-0 record. Averaging 64.5 points a game off of a .387 Field goal percentage, they typically lead opponents by 5.5 points. The Vikings have a strong ability to hold onto the ball, averaging 39 rebounds.
The Vikings are led by Junior Mollie Olson, averaging 13.3 points on a .439 field goal percentage. Olson also leads the team in blocks with 8 and steals with 7, she can pose a threat on either end of the court. The 'Cats will have to be wary of Avery Dykstra & Monique Fierke on the perimeter, both are shooting .500 from beyond the arc this season.
FIRST TIME OUT
These two games will be the first games for the 'Cats this season. Coming off of a long off-season and a 19-11 record in the 2020 season, the 'Cats are looking to come out strong. Last year the 'Cats split both games against Western Washington, 1-1. Last season the 'Cats offense averaged 70 points per game with a 7 point spread, shooting an effective .438 field goal percentage.Â
With new additions and a new look to the Wildcat's team, they hope to make a strong first impression this Friday night.
