QUOTABLE
"Winning builds confidence but we also learn less from our victories than we do our losses. So, we've been working to maintain the attitude that every week is a final. With the pandemic, nothing is guaranteed and so we have made a concerted effort to just focus on the process and the task at hand. We have a lot more games to win before we can pat ourselves on the back." CWU Head Coach
Trevor Richards said.
"This week we're looking for stronger groundwork and ruck security with ball in hand. BYU is very good over the ball and so we have to be strong, fast, and accurate in our clean outs. Despite the previous win against BYU, we were far from perfect and have to be more dynamic on attack and far more consistent in our defensive launch. BYU is always tougher the second time around and combined with playing at altitude after a long day of travel, we will have to dig deeper than we did in the first matches."
PREVIOUSLY AGAINST THE COUGARS
The Cougars have not played a game since coming to Ellensburg and falling to the 'Cats 43-13. The Cougars will definitely be playing with some intensity at home as they look to settle the score. In the last outing the Cougars were led by Nicole Lyons, scoring a try and a penalty kick against the 'Cats. She was aided by Bailey Duce as they fought to score what they could against the 'Cats strong defense.
Sammy Stern was the offense powerhouse for the 'Cats in their season opener against the Cougars. Stern earned herself a hat-trick, each try putting more then 10 yards between herself and the Cougars defense. Stern will be looking again to torch the Cougar defense.
The 'Cats also aided Stern with tries by
Haley Abeyta,
Philomena Namosimalua,
Jherish Moananu and Tessa Han. Moananu and
Keia Mae Sagapolu scored conversions for the 'Cats as well.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Cats last game was a dominating win over the Grand Canyon University 'Lopes, 130-0.
Tessa Han again earned herself a hat-trick, this time one-upping
Sammy Stern with 4 total tries in the game.
Sammy Stern kept her speed going, earning herself a hat-trick alongside Han but falling one try short of her teammate with 3.
Maddie Hadden,
Georgia Budd,
Mikayla Roberts,
Heaven Bruce and Aly Namosimalua all completed 2 tries a piece.
Mae Sagapolu and
