Baseball Splits the Opening Day of Series Against the Nighthawks

NAMPA, ID.—The Wildcats split the opening double header in the four-game series against the Nighthawks. The 'Cats won game one 4-2 and fell in game two 7-2.

QUOTABLE
"Great job today by all of our guys. We just need to come out and be consistent tomorrow." Said CWU Head Coach Desi Storey.

GAME 1
The Wildcats Dillon Larsen took the hill in game one. After allowing two earned runs in the bottom of the first, Larsen looked light outs for the rest of the game. Larsen earned himself ten strikeouts on the day and only allowed three hits through five innings.

The dominant start by Larsen was followed up by Dylan Weese, who came in for relief in the sixth inning. Weese continued to show the Nighthawks that the 'Cats pitching staff was no slouch, punching out five batters and only allowing four hits through the final four innings.

The 'Cats offense found life early in game one, a two-run top of the second and a single run in the top of the third put the 'Cats on top quickly. The 'Cats would tack on an insurance run in the seventh, but Weese had already shutdown the Nighthawks offense by then.

Austin Ohland had an explosive bat for the 'Cats in game one. Ohland went two for two on the day with a home run and a double, he was unstoppable at the plate.

This time it was the bottom of the lineup card that shined for the 'Cats. Justin Culpepper, Jake Tilley and Jason Hill all had a run batted in, which showed the Nighthawks that Central had the ability to score anywhere in the lineup.

Dillion Larsen earned the win and Dylan Weese earned the save.

GAME 2
The 'Cats had started off game two with the same explosive energy as game one, scoring two in the top of the first inning. Mitch Lesmeister hit an early double that allowed the 'Cats to strike first in game two. Tyler McClain would single and drive in Lesmeister and Adam Fahsel, the only two runs of the game for the 'Cats.

The Nighthawks scored five in the first inning and from there it was lights out for the 'Cats. After dropping two more runs in the bottom of the second, neither team was able to produce anymore offense for the final five innings.

Josh Touhey was charged with the loss for the 'Cats.
