PHOENIX, AZ.- The Wildcats leave the desert with another dominating win over the 'Lopes at Grand Canyon University 130-0.
"Overall, I'm happy with our performance today. We played a mostly freshman side that was peppered with veteran experience. The team moved the ball more fluidly than last week and did a better job in executing our systems on both sides of the ball. Out set piece was strong once again and I'm happy with a shutout victory. There were many terrific individual performances including
Kai Brandt-Templeton being lethal from the kicking tee." CWU Head Coach
Trevor Richards said.
"Our player of the match was
Tessa Hann. She was absolutely everywhere; making tackles from sideline to sideline, stealing balls at the breakdown and of course scoring 4 tries. Tessa is only a freshman and so she is unquestionably going to be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years."
"While there is a lot to be happy with, we will need to focus on better spatial recognition and tactical play this week as we gear up for another tense battle with BYU. A big thanks goes out to our Wildcat family for supporting us and to GCU for being great hosts; we look forward to growing a competitive relationship."
The 'Cats offense dominated getting just about the entire pitch involved.
Tessa Hann led the team with 4 tries.
Sammy Stern still not slowing down fell just behind Han with 3 tries.
Madison Hadden,
Georgia Budd,
Mikayla Roberts,
Heaven Bruce, and
Alycia Namosimalua all competed with 2 tries a piece.
Keia Mae Sagapolu and
Spencer Boldt both had a try each.
Kai Brandt-Templeton was deadly at the kicking tee going 16/19 on conversions with an 84% completion percentage.
The Wildcats look to keep the winning alive as they travel to Provo, Utah to take on Brigham Young University and the Cougars on their home turf. The match is set for Saturday March 13
th at 12:00 PM.
