Game Recap: Baseball |

Wildcats Split Day One with Saints

ELLENSBURG, Wash.— The Central Washington University Baseball team won game one and dropped game two against the Saint Martin's University Saints. The Wildcats look to close out the series tomorrow with two games including their Senior Day.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DESI STOREY
"Game one we played like we were capable. For whatever reason we weren't focused in game two. You can't give up six runs in the first inning to anybody, it changes up the complexion of the game. It was just not a good approach for game two. I told the guys too we need to be more focused and locked in earlier in games."

GAME ONE | CENTRAL WASHINGTON 17 - SAINT MARTIN'S 5
Dillon Larsen took to the mound to start off the four-game set against the Saints. The Saints were able to jump on Larsen early, scoring two in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats answered quickly at the hands of Austin Ohland. Ohland launched a three-run bomb off of the left-center field fence to take the lead. The 'Cats led it 3-2 after one.

The 'Cats were right back at it in the second. Five straight hits and an E6 that got capped off with a Tyler McClain double allowed the 'Cats to push across six more. After three the 'Cats led it 9-2. The third inning was much quieter for the 'Cats as Trevor Tripoli swiped the only run on an E6 by the Saints. The 'Cats led it 10-2 after three. The Saints pushed across a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth cutting the 'Cats lead 12-5.

The 'Cats offense was able to plate another in seventh on a double by Austin Ohland. In the top of the eighth with one out, Adam Fahsel and Zach Berryman posted back-to-back singles to drive in two more for the 'Cats. Mitch Lesmeister followed up the duo with a sacrifice fly down the right field line to drive in Adam Fahsel for another run. Following the sacrifice fly, Zach Berryman swiped home on a passed ball to add yet another run for the 'Cats. The Wildcats still way ahead 17-5.

Rhyse Frey came in to close it out and the 'Cats took game one with authority, 17-5.

GAME TWO | CENTRAL WASHINGTON 4 - SAINT MARTIN'S 12
After a tough game one the Saints jumped out quickly to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two. The Saints would tack on another in the fourth on a scorched groundball to the left side. The 'Cats quickly found themselves playing from behind 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth the 'Cats got the inning going with a single by Jake Engel. Adam Fahsel was able to draw a walk just behind him. Zach Berryman did his job with an RBI single to centerfield to give the 'Cats their first run of the game. After five the 'Cats trailed the Saints 6-1.

The Saints took advantage of a few miscues by the Wildcats and scored two more runs. The Wildcats trailed 8-2. Mitch Lesmeister got the offense going in the sixth with a lead off single. Tyler McClain was able to battle an eight pitch walk to give the 'Cats much needed baserunners. Jason Hill doubled through the left center gap to cut the deficit by two. Jake Engel singled through the left side and Jason Hill swiped home on a bang-bang play at the plate. The 'Cats trailed 8-4 heading into the final inning.

The Saints pushed across four more in the top of the seventh to put the 'Cats in the hole 12-4. The Wildcats were unable to get anymore runs across, falling to the Saints 12-4.

The Wildcats and Saints faceoff tomorrow for games three and four of the series along with the Wildcats Senior Day celebration. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM
