The Central Washington University Volleyball team fell to the Portland State Vikings in three sets in a single exhibition match.

"This was good for us. We got to get some players in and worked on our lineups, but overall, we weren't as sharp as we have been up to this point." Said CWU Head Coach
Mario Andaya. "PSU was in system a lot and kept us off balance most of the day, so they had a lot to do with our struggles. We struggled passing and finding any offense or big swings. We had good moments for sure, so we will feed off that moving forward."
The 'Cats started off slow, only landing one kill from
Tia Andaya before falling to the Vikings 25-8 in the first set. In set two a block by
Tia Andaya &
Emma Daoud-Hebert followed by a kill from
Sydney Remsberg put the 'Cats on top 2-1. The Vikings began to runaway with it until a kill by
Marianna Payne and a block from
Ashley Kaufman &
Emma Daoud-Hebert cut their momentum bringing the score to 12-18 Vikings. The Vikings wound up taking the second set 25-18.
In the third set the 'Cats once again jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Vikings thanks to a kill by
Tia Andaya and a block by Andya and
Leanna Shymanski. Later in the set, service aces by
Sydney Remsberg &
Shaunessy Fisk followed a kill by
Tia Andaya to tie it up at 10-10. The Vikings wound up taking the final set, 25-17.
Tia Andaya led the 'Cats offence with 9 kills and a .167 attack percentage.
Hannah Stires led the defensive side with 16 digs,
Ashley Kaufman followed suit with 12 digs, and
Sydney Remsberg with 11 digs.
Emma Daoud-Hebert stood tall at the net with 6 blocks helping the 'Cats earn 11 total as a team.
The Wildcats will kick off their regular season on the road in Bellingham where they will compete in the Western Washington University Invitational. They'll play game one against the Road Runners of Metropolitan State University of Denver at 5:00 PM on Friday, September 3
