Allen Leads Men to Second Place Finish at PLU, Women Finish Sixth

TACOMA, Wash. – The Central Washington University men's cross country team finished second at the PLU Invitational, while the women finished sixth.

The forecasted rain came to a halt before the start of the race, allowing for better race conditions than anticipated. Central Washington's men finished second, behind host Pacific Lutheran. Seattle Pacific was the only other GNAC school in attendance. They were joined by Lewis & Clark, Puget Sound, Whitworth, Pacific (Ore.), and Green River College. On the women's side, Green River College did not compete, but Pierce College (WA) and Olympic College both made an appearance.

Trevor Allen led the men's side with a 10th place finish. He clocked in a time of 25:57.70. Ty Savely and Shawn Clough finished 12th and 13th with only one Seattle Pacific runner between them and Allen, giving the Wildcats a well-packed top three. Savely finished with a time of 26:16.00, while Clough notched a 26:17.20. Rajesh Gill finished in 16th place after posting a time of 26:21.90.

Zack Sundt claimed 20th with a time of 26:36.00. Mateo Rivera rounded out the top five for the Wildcats. Rivera posted a time of 27:21.40.

Henry Milodragovich (27:28.40) and Espen Diamond (27:29.30) finished 35th and 36th respectively. Spencer Solvberg (27:39.90) claimed 42nd overall.

"The guys came close, it was a solid 8k outing," CWU Head Coach Kevin Adkisson said. "Ty was out ahead for most of the race, but I think we were a little impatient. We got out and were a little more aggressive than we should have been in the first two miles. Pacific Lutheran held back and had a little more to give in the last two miles.  The guys held on strong and had a decent pack. It being our first 8k, it's very encouraging with really good performances."

Kay Lester led the women's side for the second week in a row. She posted a 17th place finish with a time of 24:08.50. Madison Child finished five places back of Lester at 22nd with a time of 24:20.60. Kelli Heim claimed a 28th place finish with a mark of 24:39.80.

"Pretty solid day for Kay and Madison, both looking pretty good," Adkisson said. "They've made decent progress, especially given it's the first 6k. It's a big jump from the 4k and they were solid. Kelli is moving forward well, it's a great sign. She's one of those up and comers that we need to make a bit more of an impact this year. We are hopeful to have a few more runners back over the next two weeks."

Ryan Hyatt and Tailer Cochran finished 38th and 39th, respectively. Hyatt clocked a time of 25:39.80, while Cochran slid in behind her at 25:40.50. Meredith Massey and Katelyn Strate paired up for 42nd and 43rd. Massey posted a time of 25:50.6 with Strate at 25:52.40.

Central Washington travels to Lacey, Washington for the Saint Martin's Invitational on Saturday, September 25.
