Boddie's Big Night Leads Wildcats to GNAC Win

BURNABY, B.C.—Central Washington's Rashaad Boddie rushed for 279 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 36-14 win at Simon Fraser in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams, Saturday at Terry Fox Field.

A 62-minute lightning delay and wet conditions couldn't slow Boddie, who averaged 11.2 yards on 25 carries. His efforts were part of 370-yard night on the ground for the Wildcats.

"Rashaad is new to our program and he's bouncing back and trying to get a new lease on his football career," CWU head coach Chris Fisk said. "We're just starting to get him back after an injury during preseason. He had some nice runs at Eastern Washington ast week, too. We know he has some juice."

Boddie scored on touchdown runs of 4, 28 and 87 yards, the latter coming late in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Boddie rushed for 186 yards in the second half, as the Wildcats kept the ball on the ground.

Central scored on its first possession of the game, as Boddie capped 7-play, 38-yard drive with a 4-yard scoring run. But the Wildcats struggled to gain much traction on offense after that, as play was interrupted late in the first quarter by lightning with Central leading, 8-7.

After a delay of more than an hour, the Wildcats continued to sputter as Simon Fraser briefly took the lead on an 18-yard scoring run by Glover Mason with 12:19 left before halftime

Down 14-8, the Wildcats regained the lead on their next possession when reserve quarterback Quincy Glasper connected with Tony Archie on a 36-yard scoring pass with 10:42 to go in the first half.

Central took a 15-14 lead into the locker room at halftime, setting the stage for Boddie to take control of the game. The final 30 minutes saw Boddie carry the ball 15 times for 186 yards after gaining 93 yards on 10 carries in the first half. Central passed for just 51 yards in the second half, as Boddie and Cameron Daniels led the way on the ground.

On their final two possessions, the Wildcats ran 10 straight times, resulting in a 1-yard scoring run for Daniels and an 87-yard romp up the right sideline for Boddie.

Daniels ran eight times for 41 yards on the night. Glasper added 38 yards on six carries. Archie led the receiving corps with 71 yards on four catches.

JJ Lemming was 14 of 31 passing for 147 yards, while Glasper was 3 of 5 through the air for 53 yards.

Zack Stecklein led the defense with a pair of sacks, while Patrick Rogers and Brett Accimus each had one. Donte Hamilton also intercepted a pass for the Wildcats.

Quoting Coach Fisk
"It was an interesting night. In the first half, we were immature, undisciplined and didn't play Central football. We locked things down in the second half and you see the difference. We have to find a way to make good choices earlier and set the tone in the first half. Have some growing up to do."

"We try to be balanced offensively. It's easy to come out of this game and see the passing numbers and think we didn't pass the ball well. Our offensive line struggled and wasn't focused in the first half, so our quarterbacks couldn't get comfortable because they were running for their lives. Once the line settled down, we played good football."

  • The Wildcats are now 39-10 all-time against Simon Fraser
