Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Falcons Elude Wildcats

SEATTLE, Wash.—The Central Washington volleyball team fell to the Seattle Pacific Falcons in four sets today behind Ashley Kaufman's sixteen kill performance.

"We showed a lot of heart extending the match, but we had trouble stabilizing on service receive and on defense. We really couldn't get our offense going consistently, so good effort can only get you so far. We were out of system a lot and SPU capitalized good blocking. Seattle Pacific played great, and we didn't." Head Coach Mario Andaya said.

The first set started in favor of the 'Cats with kills from Ashley Kaufman and Leanna Shymanski alongside an attack error from the Falcons. The Falcons then matched the 'Cats with a three-point run of their own to bring about an early set tie at 3-3.

The Falcons continued to put together three-point and multi-point scoring runs throughout the first set keeping the 'Cats at bay. A kill from Marianna Payne and a service ace from Hannah Stires tried to give the 'Cats life, but ultimately the Falcons took set one 25-17.

In the second set, it was a five-point run on the back of Marianna Payne and Ashley Kaufman who landed big kills to give the 'Cats a 5-2 led. It was a constant battle as five straight miscues by the 'Cats allowed the Falcons to re-take and extend their lead.

A pair of kills from Ashley Kaufman and a service ace from Sydney Remsberg tried to keep the 'Cats in it, but the Falcons just barley flew off with set two, 25-23.

Set three started in similar fashion as it always does for the 'Cats with a kill from Marianna Payne and a service ace from Hannah Stires. The Falcons had a miscue and the 'Cats found themselves in front 3-0.

Ashley Kaufman provided a pair of kills alongside a pair of service aces from Kayla Skipworth and the 'Cats retook the lead 10-9. Later in the set back-to-back kills from Tia Andaya and Emma Daoud-Hebert kept the 'Cats in it as they still trailed, 20-23.

A trio of both miscues by the Falcons and service aces from Tia Andaya allowed the 'Cats to take home set three, 25-23.

The fourth set was a grind between the 'Cats and Falcons. A pair of kills by Ashley Kaufman allowed the 'Cats to equalize with the Falcons at 3-3 and 4-4. Later in the set, a kill from Marianna Payne kicked off a five-point scoring run at the hands of three attack errors by the Falcons and a service ace from Sydney Remsberg allowing the 'Cats to tie it back up at 15-15.

Ashley Kaufman provided another pair of back-to-back kills and another miscue by the Falcons gave the 'Cats the lead, 18-17.

Tia Andaya and Analia Vasquez both provided kills for the 'Cats late in the set, but ultimately the Falcons took the final set 25-22.
