ELLENSBURG, Wash.— Central Washington's baseball team has been voted to finish ninth in the West Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and CWU outfielder
Zach Berryman was named to the preseason All-West Region team, the organization announced recently.
Berryman was just one of three Great Northwest Athletic Conference players to earn a selection to the NCBWA Preseason West Region team.
The Wildcats are one of three teams from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to earn a spot in the preseason poll, alongside Northwest Nazarene and Western Oregon.
Berryman, a junior from Ephrata, Washington, hit .409 last season with a .527 slugging percentage and a .522 on base percentage. The slash line garnered Berryman first-team all-conference and second-team all-region honors.
"Zach had a great year for us and going into this season being named to the preseason west region team is a result of that," said CWU Head Coach
Desi Storey. "He is an integral part of our offense and he's one of our leaders."
Berryman finished the 2021 season among GNAC leaders in four categories, including second in on base percentage (.522), seventh in hits (45), fifth in runs scored (39), and sixth in stolen bases (6).
The Wildcats open the 2022 season with a doubleheader at the College of Idaho, noon, Saturday, Feb. 5th.
