Henderson Leads Wildcats to Explosive 45-17 Victory Over Greyhounds

PORTALES, N.M. - Tre'jon Henderson continued to showcase his rushing prowess, exploding for 152 yards and three touchdowns as the Central Washington University football team throttled the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds 45-17.

"I was very pleased with tonight's performance, and really happy with the group. Especially coming off of a bye week, I thought we operated well," Head Coach Chris Fisk said. "Travel is really tough - and the guys probably had as good a performance to start the game as we've seen."

Tonight's victory boosts the Wildcat's record to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

"Tre'Jon keeps showing up and putting on great performances. I thought our offensive line did a great job, defensively Eastern New Mexico can throw a lot at you," Fisk said. "Quincy keeps getting better and better - it's important to remember that he really didn't start until the mid-point of last season, and each week we've seen him grow and improve. I'm proud of all of our guys, getting a road win on homecoming."

Quincy Glasper had a solid night, throwing for 266 yards on 13 completions for one touchdown and one interception. On the ground, Glasper tacked on two rushing touchdowns.

Demonte Horton led Wildcat receivers, registering four receptions for 77 yards. Marcus Cook had one reception for 67 yards and one touchdown. Darius Morrison added three receptions for 42 yards.

Brett Accimus led the Wildcats in tackles (7). Jahleel Breland and Patrick Rogers logged six tackles each. Breland also added a forced fumble. Sean Gordon and Dominic Wieburg had 0.5 sacks each.

The Greyhounds started with the game on offense, but the Wildcats forced a punt. The CWU offense started the game hot. On 2nd and 6, Glasper found Morrison for a 31-yard completion. Next play, Henderson finds a gap, rushing for 40 yards and setting up the offense at the ENM 5-yard line. Glasper rushed it in himself, giving the 'Cats a 7-0 lead with 8:50 left in the first quarter.

Both teams exchanged punts in their next possession. The Greyhounds started a drive on their own 9-yard line with 5:54 remaining in the first quarter. On 1st and 10, the stout CWU defense came up huge. Breland forced a fumble, recovered by Accimus at the ENM 10-yard line.

Right off the turnover, Glasper rushed it in for his second rushing touchdown of the night. The Wildcats led 14-10 with 5:37 left in the quarter.

The next possession for ENM lasted for the rest of the first quarter and dragged into the second quarter. The Greyhound offense got into field goal range and sputtered, forcing a field goal attempt that missed wide left.

Henderson worked his magic on the next Wildcats possession. On 1st and 15 from the ENM 33-yard line, Henderson took it to the house. The 33-yard touchdown gave CWU a 21-0 lead with 9:45 remaining in the half.

After forcing a quick punt, the Crimson and Black took over again. This time, on 2nd and 9 from the CWU 33-yard line, Glasper connected with Cook for a 67-yard touchdown. The Wildcats held a commanding 28-0 lead with 8:21 in the half.

Eastern New Mexico put together their best offensive possession of the first half on their next drive, going 65 yards and capping it off with a 6-yard passing touchdown from Mario Sanchez to Asa Wondeh. The Wildcats led 28-7.

Looking to tack on some points ahead of halftime, the Wildcats moved the ball into the ENM red zone. On 2nd & 18 at the ENM 19-yard line, Glasper got intercepted on a pass intended for Demonte Horton. The Greyhounds converted the turnover into a field goal as the clock expired. The Wildcats led 28-10 at halftime.

Both teams exchanged punts to start the second half. CWU took over at the 11:30 mark. On consecutive plays, Glasper found Horton for 29 yards and Glasser for 35 yards. Henderson took advantage of the big plays through the air and punched it in for a 2-yard rushing touchdown, his second of the game. CWU led 35-10 with 7:06 left in the third quarter.

Neither team scored for the rest of the third quarter. The next scoring drive came with 13:23 left in the game. On 1st and 10 from the ENM 25, Howard Russell broke off a big play, rushing for a 75-yard touchdown. The Greyhounds had cut the CWU lead to 35-17.

After another Wildcat punt, the Greyhounds had the ball with 10:39 remaining. On 4th and 5 from the ENM 43-yard line, the CWU defense came up with a huge stop, gifting the offense great field position.

The offense took advantage of the opportunity. On 2nd and 1 from the ENM 28-yard line, the Wildcats scored another touchdown. Guess who? Henderson again, this time up the middle for his third touchdown on the night. The Wildcats led 42-17 with 6:52 left in the game.

The next Greyhound possession finished the same as the one before. The defense came up with another fourth-down stop, this time with Jaylen Clay on the tackle. The Wildcat offense took over on the ENM 34-yard line. The drive ended with Jude Mullette knocking through a 26-yard field goal.

Neither team scored for the remainder of the game and the Wildcats won 42-17.

CWU will return home for the first time in almost a month for a matchup against the Western Oregon Wolves (1-4, 0-3) next Saturday, Oct. 8, at 6:00 p.m.
