Wildcats Capture First Conference Victory; Beat Saints 2-1

Box Score LACEY, Wash. - After giving up an early goal, the Central Washington University women's soccer team responded by scoring two of their own, beating the Saint Martin's Saints 2-1 on Saturday.

"I'm very glad the girls were able to work together toward finding the win in the road. It's was an important weekend for the program," Head Coach Lindsey Lee said. "It's the first time we have come back from being down this season. For us that's a big win."

Scoring for the 'Cats were Jordan Bartlow and Payton Lindell. The win marks the first conference victory of the season for the Wildcats as their record jumps to 2-5-3, 1-3-2.

In the 3rd minute, CWU found themselves in a hole. A long throw-in from Mia Fleming bounced around the box as the Wildcats failed to clear it. Maria Pagnotta pounced on the opportunity and gave the Saints an early lead.

CWU started to find their stride not long after the goal. Between the 15th and 16th minute, the 'Cats rattled off three shots on goal, forcing three saves.

In the 20th minute, the Wildcats forced a turnover in SMU's half and the ball found Teryn Mendez. Mendez crossed the ball to Jordan Bartlow, who was ready to take advantage of her opportunity. Bartlow slotted the ball into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.

Late in the first half, a loose ball ended up in the feet of Payton Lindell right around the SMU 18-yard box. Lindell took a dribble and struck the ball with her left foot, sailing it over the Saints goalkeeper to give the 'Cats a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

The Saints took seven shots in the second half, none of them forcing Kassandra Jaggard into a save. The Wildcats weren't going to squander a lead in this match and closed it out with a 2-1 victory.

CWU took 11 shots, six on goal. Saint Martin's logged 15 shots but only two shots were on goal. Lindell led the 'Cats in shots (2) and the team had 10 shot-takers in total.

Jaggard started in goal for the Wildcats, going the full 90 minutes and recording one save. Maggie McBroom and Annelise Bauman also played all 90 minutes for the Crimson and Black.
