ELLENSBURG, Wash- The Wildcats were outdueled at home and suffered a 2-3 loss to Seattle Pacific University Falcons. In the loss, Darcy scored both goals for the 'Cats. The loss ends Centrals' postseason chances.
Â
Head Coach Lindsey Lee had the following to say about the game, "We showed a lot of grit and determination today. Today's contest was a well-fought game for both sides, I'm very proud of how our team competed."Â Â
Â
The 'Cats played physically, winning mid-field battles throughout the half. Central struck first in the 25th minute; Emily Darcy sprinted up the middle beating her defender to the ball in the box, evading the sprawling goalie, and burying it in the lower left corner.
Â
CWU rode this momentum and Grace Jackson curled one just over the goal from the right side. SPU responded, capitalizing on a free kick from Emmy Moore, which went dead center into the back of the nylon - knotting up the score at 1.
Â
Both goalkeepers worked to preserve the tie toward the end of the half. Mercedes Cullen made a highlight reel save, punching the ball off the bar and then corralling the rebound. Jaggard caught a hard shot from AJ DePinto in the 43rd minute. At the end of 45, the teams were even at one apiece.
Â
The Wildcats scored 30 seconds into the second half, the Falcons defense and Cullen miscommunicated, Darcy pounced, striking one past Cullen for the goal, her eighth of the season, and the lead.
Â
In the 53rd minute, Darcy fouled Jacqueline Blakeley in the box resulting in a falcon penalty kick. Marissa Bankey buried the PK into the bottom right corner to even the score.
Â
The Falcons scored the deciding tally in the 72nd minute off a corner. The initial shot was blocked and ricocheted to Moira MacKay, who slotted it into the back left corner of the net for her first of the season.
Â
Jaggard made a key save down the stretch to keep the deficit at 1. The Wildcats continued to fight, but the midfield play from the Falcons denied any more scoring chances for Central.
Â
Central will take positives from this game heading into their final game of the season this Saturday in Billings Montana against the Yellowjackets.
