SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.—
Ryan Arredondo struck out four while picking up his first win as Central Washington (3-5, 0-0 GNAC) split day two with Cal State San Bernardino (3-5, 0-0 CCAA). The Wildcats opened the day with a 5-4 victory and fell in game two 5-4.
"It was a tough loss in game two," said Central Washington Head Coach
Desi Storey. "I thought we were better on the mound in both games and battled well offensively. Arredondo and Hirai had great outings in game one, as well as Kearsey in game two.
Arredondo, a 6-1 freshman, allowed just two earned runs on six hits alongside no walks through his six innings of work.
The Wildcats offense combined for just 15 hits through both games, their lowest in a doubleheader thus far this spring.
Adam Fahsel, a 6-0 center fielder, hit 3-8 today leading the Wildcats with two doubles and three runs batted in. Fahsel now leads the Wildcats roster with 14 hits including five doubles and a single home run.
Central took the early lead in game one by way of a leadoff home run from
Zach Berryman. Fahsel singled through the left side, and
Austin Hauck followed with a two-run home run down the left field line.
Fahsel gave the Wildcats an insurance run in the seventh scoring on a throwing error and walked in
Michael Peter in the eighth for the winning run. CWU took the opening game 5-4.
Berryman scored the opening run for Central in the top of first in game two. The Coyotes grabbed two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Wildcats answered with a three-spot in the top of the fourth.
Central clung tight to their four-point lead, holding the Coyotes to climbing within one in the bottom of the fifth.
A fielding error in the bottom of the seventh on a base hit from Riley Parker allowed the Coyotes to plate two runs and walk off game two, 5-4.
Deshawn Johnson led the Coyotes offense going 3-6 with one run and one run batted in.
The Wildcats and Coyotes are slated for one final game on Sunday, February 13
th, at 11:00 a.m. PST.
