LACEY, Wash.—
Samantha Bowman scored 21 points as Central Washington defeated Saint Martin's 78-73 on Saturday. The win elevates the Wildcats to 18-6 overall and 11-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

With the final quarter opening with a 55-52 lead for Central, the Saints brought about an equalizer three separate times in the quarter. After a final tie at 70-70,
Jenna Troy hit a clutch layup to give CWU the final lead.
"We hit a lot of adversity in this one and credit Saint Martin's as they made things tough for us. However, we stuck to who we are and trusted our process of doing things. Super proud of all our contributions tonight. Sunny hit some big shots down the stretch, we hit clutch free-throws, and Jenna came in and gave a great defensive effort which helped lift us over top. I'm very proud of this group."
Bowman also grabbed 12 rebounds and handed out five assists.
Kizzah Maltezo posted a double-digit scoring effort as well, scoring 20 points alongside three rebounds and three assists.
Sunshine, also known as
Valerie Huerta, scored a season-high 16 points today shooting 4-8 from the field, 4-7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-4 at the charity stripe. Sunshine also picked up one rebound and gave out four assists.
Central took the lead after the opening quarter 22-16 shooting .471 from the floor and 3-3 at the charity stripe. Shooting troubles in the second quarter allowed the Saints to stage a comeback, tying the game at 31-31 at the half.
It was a hard-fought game in the post today, with the Saints taking the edge over the Wildcats scoring points in the paint 32-30.
Both sides picked up three steals each, and it was the Wildcats who lost the turnover battle giving up 10 turnovers to the Saints 9.
With both sides managing 66 possessions each, it came down to which shots would fall. The Saints out-shot the Wildcats .469 to .466 from the floor, but the Wildcats had the edge from beyond the arc shooting .393 to the Saints .333.
The Wildcats next game is on Monday, February 21
st, in Nicholson Pavilion. The Wildcats host Alaska Anchorage, tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
