LEWISTION, Idaho.— Lewis Clark State completed their four-game sweep over Central Washington defeating the Wildcats 9-4 on Sunday. The loss drops the Wildcats to 4-9 overall ahead of their return to Ellensburg next week.
A tough second inning allowed the Warriors to put up seven runs, a deficit the Wildcats could not overcome.
"Today come down to one bad inning defensively," said Central Washington Head Coach
Desi Storey. "I thought we pitched well and battled at the plate today."
In the bottom of the second inning the Warriors leadoff man reached base on an error by the Wildcats. LC State strung together three-straight hits to score three runs, and a fielder's choice the following at-bat added a fourth.
Later in the inning the Warriors found another trio of hits with a line out in between, plating two more and putting the Wildcats into a 7-0 deficit.
In the fourth inning
Austin Ohland and
Austin Hauck traded a pair of doubles, scoring Hauck to give CWU their first run of the day.
Tyler McClain drew a walk in the seventh inning after the Warriors went to their bullpen.
Trenton Love hit an infield single to the left side, advancing McClain to second. McClain reached third on a wild pitch from Jantzen Lucas and scored on a base hit from
Adam Fahsel.
Ohland scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning after a leadoff double. Fahsel reached base in the ninth inning on a single to right field, scoring on Hauck's second double of the afternoon.
Fahsel, Hauck, Ohland and
Michael Copeland all had a two-hit day. Hauck doubled twice, while Ohland and Copeland doubled just once.
The Wildcat pitching staff allowed just four earned runs on 13 hits with four walks and three strikeouts this afternoon.
Aidan Nagle had a day at the plate for LC State going 2-4 with one run, one walk, and three runs batted in.
Bryson Spagnuolo (2-0) earned the win on the mound, allowing just three hits through four innings with one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts.
Wildcat baseball returns to Ellensburg next Saturday, February 26
th. The Wildcats host Western Oregon for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
