ELLENSBURG, Wash.— In their home schedule debut, Central Washington (6-9) swept Western Oregon (6-6) in a two-game non-conference series. The Wildcats walked off game one overcoming a six-run deficit, setting the tone for a more comfortable game two.
"Our guys competed all day," said Central Washington Head Coach
Desi Storey. "I thought we pitched well and fought back hard in game one which really set the tone for the rest of the day. We had a lot of great performances throughout the day."
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
Trailing Western Oregon 6-0 after the first three innings, the Wildcat bullpen slammed the door on the Wolves allowing the offense to stage its comeback.
WOU grabbed three runs in the first inning off of a trio of singles and a double from John Stark. In the third inning WOU grabbed three more, this time on a pair of doubles from Jackson Holstad and Anthony Zellner.
Nolan Murphy (0-0) came in for the Wildcats to open the fourth, throwing two shutout innings and striking out two of the seven Wolves to step to the plate.
Ryan Arredondo (2-1) took over in the sixth and put the nail in the coffin. Arredondo threw four shutout innings, striking out four and picking up his second win of the season.
Murphy and Arredondo did not allow a single hit after taking over in the fourth and sixth innings.
Trevor Tripoli and
Charlie Larson exchanged doubles in the fifth inning to plate the first two runs for Central.
Adam Fahsel led off the sixth with a solo home run.
Austin Ohland came around to score later in the inning on a double from
Drew Richardson. Fahsel crossed for another run in the seventh inning on a single from
Michael Peter.
The Wildcats walked it off in the ninth on a mix of four walks and two hit batters.
Holstad and Stark each finished with two hits. Bryce Bond pitched two shutout innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
Josh Touhey tossed five shutout innings and
Michael Peter knocked in three runs to lead the Wildcats to a 9-2 win in game two.
Touhey (2-2) allowed just two hits and struck out one in securing his second victory of the season. The junior right-hander faced just 17 batters in his time on the mound.
Peter was one of three Wildcats with two hits as Central banged out 10 base hits for the game.
Zach Berryman and
Austin Ohland also had two hits each for the Wildcats.
Adam Fahsel started things off for the Wildcats in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Ohland followed with a run-scoring double of his own for a 2-0 lead.
Central opened things up with a six-run fourth inning.
Trevor Tripoli had an RBI single, Ohland forced in a run with a bases loaded walk,
Charlie Larson knocked in a pair with a single, and peter capped the scoring with a two-run single.
Leading 8-0, the Wildcats added their final run on a Peter sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Leighton Moniz, Stark, Darian Noll, and Levi Cummings all finished with one hit. Stark and Cummings each had one run batted in as well.
