Wildcats Split Day Two Slugfest with Coyotes

CALDWELL, Idaho.— The offensive weekend continued as Central Washington (2-2, 0-0 GNAC) split day two with the College of Idaho (5-3, 0-0 CC). The Wildcats held on to an early lead winning game one 12-11 but could not overcome the deficit in game two falling 10-8.

Sunday's split now leaves the Wildcats at an even .500 on the season.

In day two of Central Washington's non-conference series, both sides combined for 57 total hits and 41 total runs. The Wildcats were competitive at plate, only striking out 12 times across both games.

"We competed all weekend," said Central Washington Head Coach Desi Storey. "Our offense was solid all four games. We did make some key mistakes in game four, but we'll take a split considering we came right out of the field house. We'll learn, make adjustments, and get better moving forward."

Adam Fahsel, a 6-0 junior center fielder, led the Wildcats offense through both games going a combined 5-9 at the plate with one double, four hits, five runs, and three runs batted in.

2021 GNAC Freshman of the year and catcher Austin Ohland picked up right where he left off yesterday, going a combined 5-11 with four doubles, one run, and five runs batted in. Ohland now has six doubles through 16 at-bats across just three games.

As a team the Wildcats hit 16 doubles in this weekend's series divided amongst seven different players. CWU struggled with timely hitting however, leaving a combined 22 runners on base today.

Nolan Milliman picked up the win in game one, allowing five hits and three earned runs through his three and one-third innings of work. Riley Wingerson earned the save, allowing just one hit and one earned run through his five outs of work.

Ben Gaff earned the win in game two for the Coyotes, allowing just two un-earned runs and four hits through five innings of work. Gaff also struck out four and allowed only a single walk.

Center fielder Tristan Garland led the Coyotes offense going a combined 5-9 with four runs and one run batted in.

The Wildcats continue non-conference play heading down to take on Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, February 11th. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PST.
