SPOKANE, Wash.—
Erica Cabanos led the way as Central Washington Track & Field found a series of strong event finishes Friday afternoon at the Whitworth Peace Invitational.
"Definitely pleased with what we saw today," Central Washington Head Coach
Kevin Adkisson said. "We saw a lot of great competition and put fourth some great efforts. There was some tough conditions today, but we competed through it pretty well. It was a very fun meet getting to see a strong mixture of competition across DI, DII, and DIII programs. People dug in and fought hard, and we're very proud with all of their performances."
Cabanos led the way winning the women's triple jump with a seasons-best distance of 11.15 meters (36'). Cabanos also took home second for CWU in the long jump with a distance of 5.26 meters (17').
Makaylee Young finished just behind Cabanos taking third in the long jump with a distance of 5.17 meters (16').
Rose Melville took the women's 5000-meter for the Wildcats with a final time of 19:15.65.
Madison Child trailed closely behind, finishing third with a time of 19:25.94.
Caitlin Gohr ran and jumped to a second-place finish in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:34.96.
Lauryn Chandler finished second in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.85 seconds.
McCall DeChenne led Central in the women's 200-meter dash, finishing third with a final time of 25.37 seconds.
Avery Fisk threw herself a third-place finish in the women's discus with a distance of 42.22 meters (138'). Fisk also finished fourth in the shot-put with a mark of 12.50 meters (41').
The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a final time of 4:28.20. The squad consisted of Child, Gohr,
Kay Lester, and
Madison Thompson.
Bryan Sidor opened the top five finishes for the men, taking fourth place in the men's 400-meter dash with a final time of 52.98 seconds.
Chris Hines followed up for Central taking fourth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.53 seconds.
Drew Klein finished fifth in the men's pole vault with a final height of 4.46 meters (14').
Omar Young finished fifth in the men's discus for the Wildcats, throwing a final mark of 43.90 meters (144').
Central Washington Track & Field continues its outdoor season next Wednesday, April 13
th, down at Azusa Pacific.
