Vogel’s Late Header Earns 1-1 Draw

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington played a dominant game on Thursday night, resulting in a 1-1 tie with Simon Fraser. The 'Cats outshot the Red Leafs 10-6 in the first half, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Down one late, Peyton Vogel received a beautiful ball in the box from Tatum Zuber and headed it into the back of the net.

QUOTING HEAD COACH LINDSEY LEE
"It was a battle tonight. I am proud of our team for responding late and fighting until the end."

FIRST HALF
  • The Wildcats possessed intense energy and determination from the first whistle. Their energy, along with great passing, created early opportunities and in the third minute Lily Newberry took a shot that went wide left. The offensive onslaught continued as Central took two more shots and earned two corners in the first ten minutes.
  • Sami Huber tested Red Leaf's keeper Sarah Loewen in the 27th minute. Huber aimed for the lower left corner, but Loewen took away the angle and made the save. Two minutes later, Emily Darcy got in behind and had a point-blank shot that Loewen turned aside.
  • The 'Cats offense continued firing on all cylinders with shots from Grace Jackson, Tatum Zuber, and Cassidie Andrews to close out the half.
SECOND HALF
  • The Wildcats kept up the offensive intensity, registering the first three shots. Newberry's strike in the 59th minute was barely kept out by Loewen.
  • Danika Galbraith preserved the scoreline with two great saves in the 55th and 57th minute.
  • Simon Fraser broke the tie in the 80th minute. Kaiden Sherwood got a steal dribbled to the top of the box and shot one that hugged the left post and went in to give Simon Fraser the 1-0 lead.
  • Two minutes later, the 'Cats earned a free kick. Tatum Zuber lifted a beautiful ball into the box and Peyton Vogel headed it past Loewen into the back of the net. Vogel's first goal of the season earned the 1-1 draw.
  • Central Washington dominated the game. The 'Cats outshot The Red Leafs 17 to 15 and earned six corners to Simon Fraser's one.
UP NEXT
  • The Wildcats will ride this offensive momentum into Saturday's Homecoming match at noon against rivals Western Washington.
