Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wildcats Defeated by Vikings, 1-0

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Central Washington women's soccer fell 1-0 to rivals Western Washington on Thursday night. Sophie Bearden Croft scored the game-winner for the Vikings in the 35th minute.

FIRST HALF
  • Western Washington came out fast early producing three chances in the first five minutes. Central Washington's back line did a fantastic job forcing two offside calls early on erasing two out of Western's three chances.
  • Emily Darcy took a quick shot in the 14th minute from the top of the box that was saved by Claire Henninger. In the 22nd minute, Darcy pushed a ball into the box, but Tatum Zuber couldn't win the footrace to the ball.
  • The 'Cats best chance came midway through the half when a steal in the box led to a pass to Cassidie Andrews. She couldn't corral the ball and it rolled to the outskirts of the box where the Vikings cleared it.
  •  In the 35th minute, Western Washington's Halle Noelle sent a great ball in the box to Sophie Bearden Croft who kneed it into the right side of the net giving the Vikings the 1-0 lead.
  • Danika Galbraith stayed tough and in the final seconds of the half made a great kick save against the Vikings breakaway to keep the deficit at one.
SECOND HALF
  • Free kick headed taken by Abby Succi the ball arced in and was headed wide left by Jayden Nguyen in the 50th minute. The Vikings continued with the heavy dose of offense as Potter took another shot that Galbraith steered aside.
  • Lily Newberry took two long shots for the 'Cats the first sailed well over the net as her second barely missed the crossbar.
  • Myka Carr had an all-out effort play in the 51st minute that led to her left-footed shot that Galbraith covered up.
  • Manalili had a chance in the 69th minute but was blocked in the box by Jaxyn Farmen which allowed Galbraith to scoop up the loose ball.  
  • Andrews with a shot in the 76th minute for the 'Cats was blocked out of bounds. The ensuing corner was cleared out by Western Washington. Five minutes later, Finn Sprankle took a long shot that was caught by Henninger.
  • The Wildcats couldn't find chances late as throw-ins dominated the last five minutes of the match.

  • Central Washington travels up to Canada to face Simon Fraser on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
