JOPLIN, Missouri. – Central Washington's
Johan Correa placed 17
th completing the 10K in 29:50.3 at the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon. Correa's finish is the highest men's NCAA Cross Country finish in Central Washington history, second highest overall finish, and earned him All-American honors.
"I felt ready going into nationals because my training had been going really well. Before the race started, I told myself this is it, it's all or nothing leave it all out there. The race was fast, but I knew I was capable of running at a faster pace than what I am used to. It was a tough race but at the same time it was fun. I'm happy with my overall performance and I am proud to be an All-American" said Correa.

QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH MATT LAYTEN
"I am so proud of Johan! From day one, he's believed in his training and preparation and has set his sights high! Today he executed his race plan perfectly and was able to showcase his training and fitness on one of the biggest stages for national level cross country. Being All-American in cross country is no small achievement, and I'm so excited that
Johan Correa gets to have the honor of being the highest men's NCAA finisher in Central Washington history. I hope this is the first of many more All-Americans for the Wildcats!"
HOW IT HAPPENED
Correa started out strong running with the front pack and was in 15
th after the first kilometer. Through the next four kilometers, Johan dropped from 15
th to 29
th. Johan kicked it into another gear from that point on and climbed into 23
rd at the 8K mark. In the final two kilometers, Johan did what he had done all year. He picked people off down the stretch, moved up seven spots in one kilometer, and finished 17
th.
Congratulations Johan on an incredible season!
