SPOKANE, Wash. - The Central Washington University track & field team kicked off the indoor season at the Spokane Invitational today, with three Wildcats earning wins along with many marks that rank amongst the best in the nation.

Veterans that showed up today were
E'lexis Hollis,
Brenna Board,
Lauryn Chandler, and
Ellie DeGroot. E'lexis is learning just how good she can be. We've been working on some things, and today showed we're on the right track with our tweaks, setting a new school record, the #2 GNAC all-time mark, and the #2 mark in NCAA Division II. Brenna had personal records in three consecutive throws and made finals in a terrific field.
Our freshmen were equally impressive, led by
Emy Ntekpere and
Lauryn McGough. Both these women are elite-level talents that are thriving here. Lauryn won her section of the pole vault and cleared 3.75 meters, the #12 mark in the NCAA currently. Emy had a lifetime day with a PR in the hurdles and won the meet in the high jump with two lifetime bests at 5' 7.25" and 5' 8.5"! She is now #1 in the NCAA and #4 all-time in GNAC indoor history. Both these women had wonderful debuts and are committed to the process of improving every day."Â
ABOUT THE MEET
- E'lexis Hollis started off her season with a win in the 60-meter, clocking in at 7.44 seconds. In the prelims, she timed in at 7.38, breaking a school record she set last year. Her time was not only a provisional qualifier but also ranks 2nd in NCAA Division II.
- In her first collegiate meet, Emy Ntekpere won the high jump with a leap of 5' 8.5", a number that currently leads the nation. Her jump is now 4th on the GNAC indoor all-time list.
- Lauryn McGough also took home first in her event, the pole vault, clearing 12' 3.5". Her mark is 12th in NCAA Division II, as well as a provisional qualifier.
- In a loaded 60-meter hurdles field, Lauryn Chandler finished 7th with a time of 8.75 seconds. She set a provisional qualifier, and her time ranks 8th in the nation.
- Chris Hines earned a 2nd-place finish in the long jump (22' 4.25").
- Wyatt Franklin finished 5th in the weight throw with a PR of 50' 3.5".
- Other Wildcats to earn PRs include Brenna Board (weight throw, shot put), Ellie DeGroot (60-meter hurdles), Carley Huber (60-meter hurdles), Zoe McDevitt (60-meter hurdles), Jazmin Mendoza (weight throw).
