Wildcats Pick up First Win of the Season

HAYWARD, California. – Central Washington baseball picked up their first win of the season on Saturday beating Cal State East Bay 2-0 in game one. In game two, the 'Cats fell 6-0.
 
GAME ONE
  • In the first inning, Charlie Larson stole third and scored the first run of the game on a throwing error.
  • Brayde Hiria got out of a jam with runners on second and third in the bottom 4th to keep the 1-0 lead.
  • In the top of the 6th, Travis Helm singled down the left field line driving in Kevin Varner Jr to make it 2-0.
  • Cal State East Bay's Drake Richardson got out of the bases-loaded jam in the top of the 7th striking out two in a row to escape the inning.
  • Drew Richardson came in relieving Hiria in the 9th. He got Luke Brown to hit into a double play to end the game.
 
PITCHING
  • Brayde Hirai pitched a fantastic eight innings; he gave up six hits and recorded two K's
 
HITTING  
GAME TWO
  • Cal State East Bay pounced in the first inning, scoring three runs. Cole Coffey hit a single to center field driving in Brown Jr. Next, Luke Brown doubled into center field driving in Novitske. Quinn Ayres grounded out to second, scoring Coffey.
  • Tripoli and Larson singled in the third inning, but a pop fly from Varner Jr. ended the inning.
  • In the fifth, Cal State East Bay added two more runs. Manny Garcia doubled to right field driving in a run and Brown singled driving in Coffey.
  • Cal State East Bay put up one more run to win 6-0.
  • Gabe Tanner threw a complete game going 7 innings, giving up 2 hits, and striking out two batters.
